Slight Increase
Freight track maintenance fleet grew 11.8%; passenger fleet rose 1.1%
The main freight and passenger train operators showed a slight increase in their own track maintenance equipment. Between July 2024 and 2025, the number of freight machines rose from 1,026 to 1,147 (+11.8%) and passenger train equipment went from 754 to 763 (+1.1%).
In the freight segment, the main changes occurred at the Vitória Minas Railway (EFVM). According to Vale, the number of equipment went from 136 to 207. Three new tamping machines were added, one of the 07-32 line model (Plasser & Theurer, 1980, Austria) and two 09-16 CSM (Plasser & Theurer, 1984, Austria). Also added were 23 road-rail mini excavators (Sany/Supermetal, 2024, Brazil); one USP303 ballast regulator (Plasser & Theurer, 1984, Austria); one AL track car (Geovia/Robel/Plasser & Theurer, 1980, Austria); one railway crane (Kirow, 2024, Germany); one ultrasound car (Brastan/RTI, 2024, Austria); one road-rail truck for track inspection (Supermetal, 2023, Brazil); two TLS auxiliary unloading equipment (Supermetal, 2024, Brazil); and 62 railway line trailers (Plasser & Theurer, Austria). On the other hand, decommissioned were one V704FC road-rail crane (VaiaCar, 2009, Italy), one rail inspection vehicle (Loram, 2016, United States); 18 mini excavators (CAT, 2018, United States); two rail loading and unloading CDS units (Wabtec, 2015, Brazil), one railway crane (Takraf, 1994, Germany) and five road-rail vehicles (EMPRETEC, 2014, Brazil).
