Siemens plans to expand in Brazil

Siemens plans to grow in Brazil about 4% in 2010 with main focus in the infrastructure segment. The great brazilian ‘gap’ today is the infrastructure and its collaboration to decrease this one ‘gap’ that Siemens expects even to grow next year, said in exclusive interview to DCI, the president of the company in Brazil, Adilson Primo.


Inside the infrastructure segment, the bet is in the energy sector. It is one of the sectors that we expect a higher growth, exactly because lots of auctions are about to happen soon and this will require investment in equipment. We’re hoping that these auctions, such as wind power and Belo Monte, have great attractiveness and that our customers be among winners, says Primo.


But besides the energy, supply equipment for transport, mobility, harbors and airports is what Siemens waits not only for 2010, but also for the next years. Brazil has to reduce this one ‘gap’ to grow on a sustainable form. We understand that Brazil took over serious commitments with PAC, World Cup and the Olympics games and these commitments have to be accomplished. What is necessary to invest in infrastructure and that has to happen with sustainability.


Another important investment to be done by the government and cited by Mr. Primo is the High-speed Train (HST). It is very important for the country development. We do not know exactly how the project will be because there is not a proclamation yet, but we are right candidates, says Mr. Primo. Siemens is a world leader on high speed train. About 70% of the contracts closed in China, Russia and even in Europe, were closed with us, added.

The tone of Mr. Primo was of much optimism during the entire interview. That because, the company – which has a very varied portfolio in the country – faced very well the economic crisis that influenced strongly the year of 2009. We had different behaviors in each one of the sectors that we act, but in a general way, not only Siemens Brazil, but the country in general is getting out from the crisis in a positive form.

To guarantee this recovery, the company does not discard investments in 2010. During the year we are going to evaluate the need for new investments, but if the demand is high, there are great chances for investing in a new productive line.


It was exactly in the most affected segment inside Siemens in 2009 that the company was reminded by customers and vendors in a research accomplished by the DCI newspaper. So much that Siemens received the DCI Award 2009 of Most Admired Company in the Industrial Goods segment. We are flattered with the award and I believe that I can attribute this memory from other business men, because Siemens have the customer on the center of all its decisions. We want to be different by means of a larger aggregation value for the customer, explains.
