Technology marks SP Metro station

The Sacomã station on Line 2 in the Sao Paulo Metro, began operating yesterday with assisted operation and platform glass doors. During the test period, passengers can travel for free, until the Alto do Ipiranga station, from 10:30 to 15h. At the end of the month, the station will be officially inaugurated. To avoid accidents on the tracks, there are glass doors on platforms that open only when the trains arrive. Passengers will be advised to get used to the news, said Wilmar Fratini, manager of the Metro.

The Sao Paulo Metro changed the conventional turnstiles for automatic locks, and had surprised the first users. “I think this is going to be a problem in peak days. People have no patience to wait for the locks to open. In the hurry, we will have confusion, predicts the logistics coordinator, Cristiane Godoy.

Another novelty is the ventilation system, which moist the air.

The assisted operation phase is to verify the performance of equipment and employees in normal operating conditions. “We test these new technologies before placing the station in full operation”, said  the Associate Secretary of Metropolitan Transport, Joao Paulo de Jesus Lopes.

The new equipment will be implemented in the following stations to be delivered: Tamanduateí and Vila Prudente, both the Lline 2; Faria Lima, Augusta, Butantã, Republica and Luz, on Line 4.  The first to test the system will be the Vila Matilde station, in Line 3.
