As the proposals of the monorail bidding were opened, the best proposal for its construction was made by the consortium formed by Queiroz Galvao, Bombardier and OAS, which presented a price 43% higher than the stipulated by the Sao Paulo’s Metro.
The consortium asked for US$ 1.71 billion for the project – the maximum price fixed by the Metro was US$ 1.20 billion. Despite the opening of the envelopes, the government said it still did not endorse the outcome and should call the consortium to discuss the values of the proposal.
Through its press office, the Metro informed that “it has received the proposals for the extension of Line 2 and they are under analysis. After the conclusion of this step, the Metro will make an announcement”.

Yesterday (3), as reveled by Folha de Sao Paulo, the Metro rejected the opened proposals for the second lot of Line 5, considering the price too high. On that case, the proposal was 30% higher.
On the process of the construction of the monorail, the other consortium, formed by Andrade Gutierrez and Scomi, presented a much higher price: US$ 2.85 billion, or 138,2% above the stipulated price.
The monorail project is polemic since its beginning. The original estimative was that the tracing would be covered by Metro stations. In 2009, however, the Secretaria de Estado dos Transportes came with a new project, which substitutes the traditional Metro stations by a system called “Monorail”, on which the train runs over a single rail.
Some experts, including from the Metro, believes that the monorail do not have enough capacity to meet the demand and, although more expensive, the most logical and efficient would be the extension of the line with a regular metro train.
The first tracing would go from the Vila Prudente station to the Oratorio station, totalizing 2.8 km. The second tracing would go from Oratorio to Sao Mateus stations, with 10.5 km. The final tracing connects Sao Mateus to Hospital Cidade Tiradentes stations, with 11 km.
