The two first cars that will comprise the Fortaleza Metro are already being dispatched to Ceará. The machines were embarked in the Port of Naples, Italy, on July 18th, and are expected to arrive in the Port Terminal of Pecém on August 15th, five days in advance of the date previously scheduled.
The two initial trains, from a total of 20 units to be received, are being manufactured by the Italian company Ansaldo Breda, in the city of Naples.
After the assembly, one of the trains shall be tested on a section of 9 km between Carlito Benevides station, in Pacatuba, and Aracapé station, between Fortaleza and Maracanaú. The other train shall be exhibited to the public in the João Felipe station, so as to enable the population of Fortaleza to get in touch with the equipment. The delivery of two additional trains is expected for February 2011.
