A little more than two years for the games of World Cup 2014 in Rio de Janeiro, President Dilma Rousseff announced on this Wednesday (21), during a visit to a suburb of the city, the release of US$ 890 million for urban mobility works in the city. According to the Rio city administration, the equipment to be installed should increase from 18% to 63% the coverage index of high-capacity transport.
Most of the funds, US$ 620 million, will be aimed at the deployment of Transbrasil, an express BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) corridor, running along the 32 kilometers of Brasil Avenue, from the district of Deodoro to Presidente Vargas Avenue, passing by Francisco Bicalho Avenue. The equipment will be provided with 4 terminals, 28 stations and 15 pedestrian overpasses. The City Administration estimates servicing 900,000 passengers per day. All in all, the work will cost US$ 710 million.
Another investment of the federal government, amounting to US$ 275 million, will be made for the deployment of the Light Rail Vehicle (LRV), which will interconnect the downtown region in Rio. With total extension of 26 kilometers, the LRV will offer 6 tracks and 42 stations. According to the City Administration, the LRV should connect Novo Rio Bus Station, Santos Dumont Airport and the metro, train and boat stations of the city. Total cost of the works should amount to U$ 600 million.
Talking with workers and residents in Largo do Campinho, district of Madureira, Dilma emphasized the partnership among federal, state and local governments in the works, which should improve the quality of life of the local population, according to her.
“We are not only making a transport work, we are changing the reality of Rio de Janeiro in terms of living, coming from and going to home, providing free time for leisure,” said the President. This transportation pattern provided by BRT that I’ve seen here gives dignity to workers, entrepreneurs and students in this state.
The President visited the works of Transcarioca, which is a 41-km express traffic corridor connecting Barra da Tijuca to Tom Jobim International Airport. The government states that the new path should service 400,000 people and reduce the travel time in 60%.
Call center in the North Zone
Later, in her fourth event in Rio on this Wednesday, Dilma attended the inauguration of the new unit of a multinational call center company, also in Madureira, North Zone of the city. The unit facilities are included in the incentive program of the city administration to attracting new tele-service companies to the North and West zones of the city.
With the approval in 2009 of Law 5.044, tele-service centers were provided with more attractive conditions to be established in these regions. The law has provisions for reducing the service tax (ISS) rate from 5% to 2% and exemption of ITBI and IPTU taxes for three years to the companies.
In addition to the President, Governor Sérgio Cabral, Vice-Governor Luis Fernando Pezão, Mayor Eduardo Paes and Ministers Agnaldo Ribeiro and Helena Chagas also attended the event.
