São Paulo’s state secretary of Metropolitan Transport Jurandir Fernandes visited on this Wednesday, April 2, the Metro’s railroad yard in Vila Sônia and announced the expansion of track 4 to Taboão da Serra.
In December, during an event in Juquitiba, Governor Geraldo Alckmin said in an exclusive interview to O Taboanense Portal that he had determined the contracting of two projects that are essential to detail where the track will pass through, the number and locations of stations as well as the number of users served.
“We have already determined the contracting of the functional and the executive project, which is the first step, and we will do it immediately,” said the governor in December last year.
On occasion, Alckmin said the station in Taboão da Serra was not foreseen in the initial project, but with the expansion to Vila Sônia, the city would receive the Metro. The expectation now is for the bidding contract. “If we could make it with the current track 4 contract, it will be easier. Otherwise we will bid again and make this stretch, but it is our commitment to do so. So, in order to save time, we will make the functional project and the executive project of Vila Sônia to Taboão da Serra,” Alckmin said.
The construction of the stretch can be done through a Public Private Partnership (PPP). “What we are doing now is the functional project, to really know what its path is, how it will reach Taboão da Serra and how many stations we are going to do,” Fernandes said.
Modern track
Track 4 of Metro that will service the residents of Taboão da Serra in the future is one of the most modern tracks. The first novelty is that the trains move without operators; all maneuvers are controlled from the Vila Sônia yard. All coaches have free passageways between the trains, providing more comfort and avoiding agglomerations at peak hours. The trains also have air-conditioning, sound system and electronic information panels.
In the Paulista terminal, moving sidewalks facilitate the movement of passengers. The trend is that other track stations also follow the same pattern. Another good novelty is that each stop will have free Wi-Fi connection points to Metro users. It is possible to browse while waiting for the next train, which the State Government promises to be very short between trips.
Another new feature already implemented in the new Metro stations is the modern security system. Glass walls will prevent users from suffering accidents on the platforms. These walls are opened only with the arrival of trains.
