Valec Engenharia, Construções e Ferrovias, agency of the Ministry of Transport, will, promote on June 20, a public hearing to discuss the opening of the bidding process for procurement of rails. The information was published in the Official Gazette on Wednesday (06/05). The rails will be installed at the construction sites of the North-South and West-East Integration (Fiol) railroads, both included in the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC).
The public company plans to split the purchase of approximately 243,000 tons of rails in batches in order to attract a larger number of suppliers. For the North-South, in the section between Ouro Verde (GO) and Estrela d’Oeste (SP), the forecast is to tender approximately 95.5 thousand tons of rails. For the West-East Integration Railroad, between Annapolis (GO) and Estrela D’Oeste (SP), will be acquired approximately 147,5 thousand tons. The amount to be auctioned in each batch will be one of the topics discussed at the hearing on the 20th, at 10:00 am in the auditorium of Valec in Brasilia.
North-South Railroad – The North-South Railroad will have a length of 4,155.6 km and will cross the states of Pará, Maranhão, Tocantins, Goiás, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. The railroad was designed to extend and integrate Brazil’s railroad system and the development of the whole country.
West-East Railroad – Included among the priorities of the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC), Fiol has 1,527 km long and will connect the cities of Ilhéus, Caetité and Barreiras, in Bahia, to Figueirópolis, in the state of Tocantins. When completed, the West-East Railroad will form a transportation corridor that will optimize the operation of the South Port in Ilheus (BA), and open a new logistics alternative for ports in the North of the country served by the North-South Railroad and the Carajás Railroad.
