The Odebrecht Group plans to invest USD 21,8 billion in the 2014-2016 triennium. The information was given on Wednesday evening by Augusto Pedro Novis, representative of the board of directors of the company, which did not provide further details on the allocation of resources.
According to the president of Odebrecht Infrastructure, Benedicto Junior, of this total, approximately USD 3,5 billion will be invested only in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The amount includes works such as the construction of the Olympic Park and the subway line 4.
Benedicto Junior said the company intends to increase the pace of the works aimed at the 2014 Olympics. “The body of work needs to be accelerated,” he said.
The executive also said that the company’s focus is to recover the mobility system of Rio de Janeiro. “The focus is to recover public integrated systems so that the population is able to go to work without having to use a car”.
In a speech during the award ceremony of “Executive of the Year 2013” which he received from Ibef, Benedicto Junior emphasized the situation of Supervia, the concessionaire that operates trains from Rio de Janeiro, controlled by Odebrecht for three years.
“We are seeking safety and comfort [in the operation]. The results will take some time yet,” he said.
The executive pointed out, however, that in 15 years only USD 412,8 million was invested in the Supervia, while São Paulo trains, for example, received investments of USD 18,1 billion in the same period.
Acquisitions
Odebrecht Infrastructure is evaluating new business opportunities through upcoming auctions of infrastructure concessions. But the company’s focus is on works auctioned last year, according to Benedicto Junior.
“We are evaluating [opportunities]. But we have a number of projects to structure. Our focus today is to structure these teams along 2014 in order to mobilize things, in an organized manner, and get it up to speed,” said the executive.
He cited as examples of works that need to be structured in a part of the São Paulo subway, the Galeão airport in Rio de Janeiro, and a stretch of highway BR-163.
Benedicto Junior added that the decision to participate in the auctions depends on each asset that will be offered by the government. “Our assessment is made on the asset,” he said, explaining that the company may participate in the auction in case it sees how the asset can bring value to the company.
Corinthians
According to Benedicto Junior, Odebrecht intends to assemble the coverage of the damaged area in the work of the Corinthians Arena in March. The executive explained that the metal piece for the cover has already been contracted and should be delivered in February.
He reaffirmed that the stadium will be delivered within the deadline committed with Fifa in the first half of April.
The recovery of the roof of the damaged area will not affect the project schedule because it will be made out of the area in which the company is currently working on the project, he said. According to Benedicto Junior, 98% of the works have been completed. “It’s just missing the finish” he said.
