Initially, the agency will prioritize investments in two sectors: infrastructure and innovation and technology. The road BR 235, which is being constructed between Caracol and Bom Jesus, will be expanded up to the state of Maranhão. Besides that, the promise of the Federal Government is to extend the Transnordestina Railway up to the city of Açailândia (MA), in order to ease the outflow of products manufactured in Piauí up to the ports of Belem (PA) and São Luis (MA).
In the first operation years, the agency also intends to invest in a massive way in the control of pests and in the formation of young people through courses related to the agribusiness sector.

During the event, which was held in the CEIR auditorium, the mayors of the cities included in Matopiba signed an enrolment term for the development program. Each mayor received a tractor in the ceremony and will receive a drilling for the construction of wells.
The decree for the creation of the Development Agency of Matopiba was sanctioned in the last May the 6th by president Dilma Rousseff (PT).
The objective of the agency is to boost the economic development of the cities that integrate the Matopiba region, benefiting small, medium and big-sized producers, focused on sustainability and regional integration.
“Matopiba, whose name is an acronym formed by the initial letters of the states of Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia, is considered the ultimate agricultural border and nowadays represents roughly 10% of the production of grains in Brazil. It is strategic for the social emergence of small local producers and for an increase of the sustainable production and of the agricultural exportation of the country”, highlighted the State Government through a press release aired by its Communication Coordination (CCom).
