The City of São Paulo and the State Government formalized an agreement that guarantees R$ 120 million from the municipality for the implementation of the future Linha 20-Rosa Metro Line. The initiative represents another step forward in viabilizing one of the most anticipated urban mobility projects in the Metropolitan Region.
The agreement brings together the Municipal Secretariat of Urbanism and Licensing (SMUL), São Paulo Urbanismo, the Municipal Secretariat of Urban Mobility and Transportation (SMT), and the Metrô. The resources will come from the Faria Lima Consortium Urban Operation (OUCFL) and may be used in both the execution of works and other necessary stages for the implementation of the new line.
In its current configuration, Linha 20-Rosa will have 32.6 kilometers of extension, connecting the municipalities of Santo André and São Bernardo do Campo, in the ABC region, to the capital. The route will cross the South Zone of São Paulo until reaching the West Zone, passing through one of the city’s main financial hubs: the Faria Lima region. In this stretch, the stations Tabapuã, Jesuíno Cardoso, and Hélio Pelegrino are planned, all located within the perimeter of the Faria Lima Consortium Urban Operation.
According to the administration of Mayor Ricardo Nunes, the allocation of resources does not compromise other investments planned by the municipality. The administration reported that the urban operation has a balance exceeding R$ 4.7 billion in cash and emphasized that the R$ 120 million contribution will be financed with resources from the sale of Additional Construction Potential Certificates (CEPACs), a mechanism used to finance urban interventions.
With a duration of 60 months, the agreement establishes mechanisms for technical oversight, inspection, and accounting, ensuring greater transparency in the application of public resources. The document also provides for the possibility of expanding its scope to include new projects, works, and even expropriations related to the implementation of Linha 20-Rosa.
When completed, the new line is expected to significantly expand the integration of São Paulo’s metro-railway system. The project includes connections with Linha 6-Laranja at Santa Marina station—an integration recently reaffirmed by Governor Tarcísio de Freitas—as well as with Linhas 7-Rubi and 8-Diamante at Lapa. Along the route, there will also be integration with Metrô Linhas 1-Azul, 2-Verde, and 5-Lilás, while in Santo André, the connection will be with CPTM’s Linha 10-Turquesa, strengthening the link between the capital and the ABC region.
