The concession operator Linha Universidade, responsible for operating the new Linha 6-Laranja of the São Paulo Metro, released a summary of the first day of public operation.

On Thursday, July 3rd, 4,756 passenger entries were recorded across the six stations in operation. The result was achieved even with the line operating on a reduced schedule, outside peak demand periods for public transportation, such as morning and evening rush hours.

The numbers reflect public interest, especially from residents of the region now served by a rail-based transportation system, in learning about the new line, its trains, and stations.

Linha 6-Laranja is in the assisted operation phase, which is scheduled to last up to 180 days. During this period, trips are free of charge, but operations occur only Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., except on holidays.

Among the important systems are the platform screen doors that prevent unauthorized access and object falls, and will be activated when full operation begins, along with Alstom rolling stock, manufactured at its plant in the city of Taubaté, in the interior of São Paulo.

At this initial stage, the line connects João Paulo I station in the North Zone to Perdizes station in the West Zone, passing through Freguesia do Ó, Santa Marina, Água Branca, and SESC-Pompeia, with an estimated investment of R$ 19 billion through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

The line expansion already has new phases defined. By the end of this year, the State Government plans to deliver Brasilândia and Itaberaba-Hospital Vila Penteado stations. In 2027, Linha 6-Laranja is expected to reach São Joaquim station in the central region of the capital, creating new connections with the metro-railway network. As a result, the line will have 15 stations distributed along 15 kilometers of track.
