Caixa approves credit for the Congonhas single-rail train

Caixa Econômica Federal released R$ 6.5 billion for financing 42 transportation projects in nine cities that will host the 2014 World Cup.

Among the projects qualified, there are the connection between Congonhas airport and São Paulo metro (Line 17-Gold); the LRV (Light Rail Vehicle) in Brasília, connection between the city’s airport and Asa Sul district; the North/Downtown Manaus monorail; and the Fortaleza LRV, connecting Parangaba to Mucuripe.

In the cities of Belo Horizonte, Recife, Porto Alegre and Salvador, the works for the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit), a bus corridor system, were included. Financing was also approved for Curitiba.

The endeavors will be financed with resources from FGTS (Warranty Fund from Time in Service).

To release the money, it is still necessary to present the documents to National Treasury to authorize the debt of States and cities involved in the projects.

The works are part of the Pro-Transport program from the Ministry of Cities and are included in PAC (Growth Acceleration Program).

According to Caixa, the financing of 48 airport and transportation infrastructure works is expected for the 12 cities that will host World Cup matches, which also includes Cuiabá, Natal, and Rio de Janeiro.
