Two stretches of railroads must be bid in the 1st half of 2014

The government will be able to bid at most two stretches of railroads in the first half of 2014. We will choose three or four stretches to make the first tranche of PMI. As the deadline for making a project is five to six months, we should have a second round of bidding for railroads in the second half, said Gleisi.

The minister said the Estruturadora Brasileira de Projetos (EBP) may present studies, although its participation has been questioned by TCU. If the EBP wants to participate, it can. According Gleisi, the option for the PMI stems from the fact that the government has no structure to do engineering studies for the railroads. We would have to do the bidding, contract studies and we would take six months only to hire someone to do the project, and another six months for the study, she said.
