AmstedMaxion is working in the production of prototypes of GDU model cars, AMAX Mine, for transportation of ore with a revolutionary design. The Railway Engineering area in the company has been working in this project in the last 10 months. The prototype should be finished in the second fortnight of April.
The new AMAX Mine car is being manufactured with greater freight capacity, standardization of structural components, without retaining ore inside the body. Another differential of this car is the braking system on the bogie, which provides higher efficiency and fast application and release, as it does not use the conventional steering gear, thus removing from the car a series of components, such as brackets, slides, levers, tie rods etc. In spite of this facility, if the customer chooses for using the traditional system, the project is also capable of receiving its assembly.
AMAX Mine also has application of wear discs made of non-metallic material in order to reduce the friction between the center plate and the center of the bogie’s crossbar, thus facilitating the entrance in the steep horizontal turns of tracks and mountain sections of the railroads. There is also the option for on-line temperature control by the IONX Temperature Sensor System, which is a novelty even in the American railroads, where the car location data and the temperature data of the eight roller bearings are informed in real time via satellite transmission.

The new car body will be assembled with tubular shapes that provide high structural strength, car head better anchored to the underframe and longitudinal consolidation tubes, in addition to 11 identical tie rods on each side wall, which will increase its strength upon discharge at the car dumpers. The great differential of this body is that its structure is totally fastened with huckbolts, which are structural fastening elements that do not use weld, that is, a solution that provides better efficiency in the maintenance at the customers’ shop.
The increase of volume will be achieved by a round-shaped central bulge section to prevent ore retention, supported on special crossbars. The project does not have provision for continuous central beam. Internal finishes are being produced with 300-mm radius, which also contributes to prevent retention of material inside the bodies.
