CVRD coments locomotive aprehension

Concerning the apprehension of 19 locomotives at the Port of Vitória,  announced by Revista Ferroviária last monday 19 (see notes: “Federal Revenue Apprehends FCA’s Locomotives” and “Locomotives were being refurbished”), the press office of CVRD announced the following note:

Concerning operation of the Federal Revenue in Porto of Vitória, FCA comes to public render the following clarifications:

1) FCA hired the company Corema to accomplish the purchase, the import process and the reform of the locomotives, manufactured by the General Motors. Therefore, FCA is a client of Corema, which indicated Trop Company to import the locomotives;

2) Corema is the exclusive distributor in Brazil for the Electro Motive Division, formerly belonging to General Motors, manufacturer of the locomotives;

3) These used locomotives will be reformed and adapted in Brazil by Corema;

4) The acquisition prices were closed based on the offer of this kind of equipment in the international market;

5) Because of the heating of the world railroad sector, nowadays there are no new locomotives available in the market. The delivery of a new unit carries about 15 months, after the acquisition contract. An used model just carries six months to be delivered;

6) In  reason of the crescent demand for transportation, FCA resorted to the importation of used locomotives. Since 2003, FCA already ordered 70 used locomotives, of which 51 are already in Brazil;

7) The taxes on this kind of operation, which are FCA’s responsibility, are fully paid.
