CPTM reported that it would publish an international tender in mid-July this year for the acquisition of 40 new trains, for delivery in 2010. The value of the investment is estimated at US$ 670 million but the company has still not decided how to finance the purchase. Another 17 trains should be ordered for the São Paulo Metrô, although this still has not been officially confirmed.
In the case of CPTM, the trains will consist of eight cars each with capacity to carry 2,000 and technology that is the equivalent to or better than the most modern trains currently operated by the company, such as the Expresso Leste (CAF) and Linha C (Siemens). With the incorporation of the new trains into its fleet CPTM expects to reduce intervals and increase the number of seats available.
