The director of Institutional Relations of the Rio Metro, Joubert Flores, confirmed the intention of the company to acquire 108 coaches (18 trains of six coaches); to build the link between Line 1 and Line 2 in front of the city hall, comprising the Cidade Nova station; and to finish the installation of ATS and automatic pilot in Line 2, with the objective or raising the current 550 thousand passengers per working day to 1 million 100 thousand. The investment, whose sources are being identified, will be of R$ 826 million (US$ 450 million). Although Joubert has not told so, it is known that the main counterpart of the State of Rio de Janeiro will be to renew the Opportrans concession term for 20 years more. The concession completes 10 years on April of next year. The agreement is in final phase of negotiation with the government.
