Bernardo Figueiredo, General Director at ANTT (National Agency for Land Transportation) said to Agência Estado that no information has been received yet about a formal request from Talgo for postponing the bidding process of the bullet train, but the agency has perceived actions in the market in favor of the deadline extension.
Figueiredo confirmed the position he defends since the beginning of the process, that the postponement is not necessary. But, he emphasized that the final decision shall come from the Federal Government. “I sustain my opinion that the companies had sufficient time (to prepare the studies). But, more important than the deadline is assuring competitiveness and a suitable proposal for the bid”.
“As a demand for additional time is perceived, I will take the subject for be deliberated by the government. If there is an insight that the market needs additional time, the government shall be sensitive to the claim,” he said.

The Director at ANTT bets on the attendance up to three consortiums in the bidding process. “Korean companies already have defined a consortium and are looking for strengthening the group. The Brazilian companies (contractors) have already completed the market and engineering studies, and are negotiating to choose the technology to be used, thus I believe that we may have up to three consortiums”.
