Eyeing the infrastructure projects that are necessary to speed up the flow of cargo in accesses to the Port of Santos, the German Government is financing a study that shall draw up a list of alternatives of work projects to be tendered by the Secretariat for Ports (SEP).
Yesterday, the German Minister for Transport, Construction and Urban Development, Peter Ramsauer, came to Santos together with a commission of representatives of financial institutions and other companies, such as Siemens, interested in participating in the proposed solutions for the largest port of Latin America.
The work considered essential includes: a tunnel connecting the two sides of the port (Santos and Guarujá); logistics platforms to regulate traffic in the rear area of the port; a waterway system to use the river potential of the region and also a greater balance of the transport matrix – nowadays, 85% of the cargo handled by the port of Santos either arrives or leaves by lorry – and a monorail system, a kind of cable car to transport containers up the 800 meters of the Serra do Mar mountain range, between Santos and São Paulo.
