The World Bank (IBRD) announced on this Thursday a US$ 600 million credit for the urban train system in Rio de Janeiro and another US$ 70.3 million credit to promote the efficient use of water in the state of Sergipe.
A statement informed that the investment in the urban transport system in Rio will benefit half a million people, most of them from disadvantaged regions, and should reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 93,700 tons a year.
The funds will be used to acquire at least 60 new trains, which will increase the quality of the system by reducing the time of travel.
