Rumo, a freight railway operator, and Olfar, an industrial group operating in biodiesel and soybean processing segments, have initiated the first shipments during the commissioning phase of the new road-rail terminal in Porangatu (GO). The facility expands the logistics connection from northern Goiás and southern Tocantins with the railway corridor linking the region to Port of Santos (SP).
Located in an area with access to BR-153 and direct connection to the Malha Central, the terminal was designed to support grain evacuation and serve the agroindustrial production of an expanding region in the Center-North of the country. The unit has transshipment capacity of 1.5 million tons of grain and loading and unloading operations of up to 1,000 tons per hour.
The terminal’s entry into operation occurs at a time of growth in Rumo’s activities in Goiás. In 2025, the company moved approximately 5.7 million tons of grain in the state and achieved a 28% share of Goiás exports, above the 25% recorded in 2024.
“Porangatu expands Rumo’s presence in a strategic region for agriculture and reinforces Malha Central’s capacity to serve production from northern Goiás and southern Tocantins with greater predictability and competitiveness. The railway connection with Santos shortens logistics distances, broadens evacuation alternatives, and strengthens the integration of regional production with the country’s main markets,” stated Diogo Velloso, commercial director at Rumo.
According to Olfar, the new railway operation represents an advance for the region’s logistics integration. “The railway operation in Porangatu consolidates a strategic advance for Olfar, for the region, and for the state of Goiás. This project strengthens local production, drives the integration of the production chain, and creates new conditions for regional development. It is gratifying to see this infrastructure materializing and contributing to the growth of Brazilian agribusiness,” stated José Carlos Weschenfelder, president of Grupo Olfar.
The project expands the integration between industrial activity and railway transport in a region considered strategic for agribusiness. In Porangatu, Olfar has been expanding its operations since 2021, when it reactivated its biodiesel plant. In 2026, the company completed the implementation of a soybean industrial complex in the municipality.
With the new railway operation, the enterprise now has a terminal with a contracted volume of 3,000 tons per day of soybean meal, expanding the logistics infrastructure available for the movement of regional production.
