Rumo Logistica, a logistic company of sugar and grains controlled by Cosan, has closed with Sao Martinho an agreement for the rail transport of sugar.
The project was divided in two phases. The first one, with a one year period, provides the transfer of at least 500 thousand tons of sugar from thirds on the Sao Martinho terminal. Rumo must transport this volume, plus 300 thousand tons of sugar of Sao Martinho.
Rumo will also concede Sao Martinho the possible hiring of static storage capacity on its terminals in the port of Santos, in volumes and conditions to be decided on each year/season.
The second phase of the project sees the construction of a new sugar terminal for transferring. The expansion will enable the transfer of additional volumes on the Sao Martinho’s plant terminal in 2010 and 2011.

The investments on the terminal will be made by Sao Martinho, as any rail adjustment will be Rumo’s responsibility.
This partnership confirms the compromise between Sao Martinho and Cosan, through Rumo, on the perpetual search for better efficiency and cost reduction in the export of sugar, the companies said in a statement to the market.
