The Spanish company Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) established the Brazilian high speed rail project as its strategic target.
The governor of the Basque Country, Patxi López, and the industry counselor, Bernabé Unda, visited today (23) the factory that CAF built in Hortolandia, countryside of Sao Paulo, on which were invested US$ 60.8 million.
About 800 people are working in this factory, which is CAF’s second biggest plant.

According to CAF’s spokesman, it is expected that the company delivers 400 couches this year, among 20% to 30% of the company’s worldwide production.
A source stated that the “challenge” of CAF for the coming months and years is to grow in other states and try to get the contract to produce their high speed train for the Sao Paulo-Rio de Janeiro project. However, the election may delay the bidding.
