Marcopolo Rail Begins Delivery of First Prosper CITY Urban Trains to Teresina

Marcopolo Rail has initiated the shipment of the first Prosper CITY model consist destined for the Companhia Ferroviária e de Logística do Piauí (CFLP). The supply is part of a contract that provides for the delivery of three consists for the urban mobility system of Teresina (PI) and marks the company’s advancement in the urban train segment in the Brazilian market.

According to the company, the project comprises two consists formed by two cars and one consist of three cars. The vehicles will be used on Line 1, which connects the southeast region to downtown Teresina over a route of approximately 17 kilometers. The LRVs will have capacity to transport approximately 360 and 540 passengers, respectively, and were designed to meet the growing demand for urban mobility, helping to improve traffic flow and the quality of public transportation in the capital of Piauí.

“This is another important Marcopolo Rail contract closed in Brazil, which we are delivering with excellence and quality. We continue to expand our operations in the Country and advance in the supply of solutions for urban transportation segments. We strongly believe in the potential of the Brazilian metro-railway segment, which is fully capable of meeting high-capacity transportation needs with speed, efficiency and comfort, in addition to presenting various advantages in the cost versus benefit ratio in the medium term”, stated Petras Amaral, Business Head of Marcopolo Rail.

Currently, approximately 8,000 passengers daily use Teresina’s urban railway system, which offers free transportation to the population. According to the company, the incorporation of the new consists will help expand the operational capacity of the system and raise the levels of comfort, accessibility and efficiency of the service provided to users.

In addition to deliveries for the Companhia Ferroviária e de Logística do Piauí scheduled for 2026, Marcopolo Rail has another ongoing contract for the supply of three two-car Prosper CITY consists for Ferrovia Transnordestina Logística (FTL), with deliveries scheduled for 2027.

Prosper CITY

The Prosper CITY is a light rail vehicle with boarding at an elevated platform of 1.10 meters, developed by Marcopolo Rail and manufactured entirely in Brazil. The model was designed to meet urban mobility needs in medium and large-sized cities, combining operational efficiency, customization flexibility and integration into the urban environment.

The vehicle has capacity to transport up to 560 passengers in a three-car consist. It features wide doors to facilitate boarding and alighting, glazed areas and an interior layout that can be customized according to the needs of each operation. According to the company, the Prosper CITY complies with all international standards required for railway rolling stock in its segment.

Marcopolo Rail states that the project reinforces the potential of Brazilian mobility solutions and expands its operations with new business in Brazil and South America, citing the recent supply of trains for Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado (EFE Trenes de Chile), the public company responsible for managing Chile’s railway network.
