The high-speed train between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo will transform the Brazilian transport system, affirmed today the superintendent of Transportation Services of Freight rom Agência Nacional dos Transportes Terrestres (ANTT), Noboru Ofugi.
After presenting the bid project for the members of Chamber of commerce of Madrid, which will be defined today in meeting with the brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Ofugi affirmed that the priority will be the system efficiency and hopes that this part will be in operation until the World Cup of 2014, which will happen in Brazil.
“If we obtain a system that improve enough organizers and population’s access to the event, would be, without a doubt, already a significant advance, but our expectation is at least some courses are ready to help the people’s mobilization until that period”, said Ofugi in interview to Efe Agency.
Ofugi affirmed that the main companies interested in participate in the project are from Spain, France, Germany, Japan and South Korea, and they should demonstrate experience in engineering railroad, high-speed trains and implementation of complete systems of those characteristics.

The superintendent explained that the company that wins the concession through public bidding will take over the construction of 500 kilometers of railway track, eight stations, to a total cost of US$ 18 billion, for which will have tariff freedom with a maximum price.
In his presentation, Ofugi exhibited government’s plans on railroad tracks of wide gauge that will run through the Brazilian territory from north to south and east to west, besides highways infrastructure plans, like 2000 kilometers that will be build next semester in Minas Gerais.
The Commercial Counselor of Brazil’s Embassy in Spain, Claudio Garon, noted that Brazil has a middle class market equivalent to 80 million people.
He also noted the opportunities for investment that will be generated by the 2014 World Cup and the Olympics, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
“Both events will require a number of works that have already begun and many other investments”, he said in the presentation for the Madrid business men.
