Investments in infrastructure, which will pull much of the growth of the Brazilian Gross National Product (GNP) and attract more and more participation of private enterprise, are the main reason why the direction of the Brazilian subsidiary of Siemens is going to invest in rapid growth of the German business group in Brazil in 2010. “If the GNP growth 5%, we will grow three times”, says Adilson Primo, president of Siemens in Brazil.
For the executive, there is no alternative: it is investing or investing in vital areas such as gas, oil, transport, education and logistics. “Last year, the growth was driven by consumption, but this is insufficient in a long run”, says Primo. “If we want to be sustainable, we must invest in sectors linked to production”.
Primo said the increased presence of the private sector is a result of improved business environment and a certain exhaustion of the capacity of financing sources, such as BNDES. “In Brazil, the government funding accounts for 60% of investments and 40% comes from the private sector”, says Primo. “In other countries, is the opposite”.

The executive makes no secret of his expectation of the future works caused by the 2014 World Cup and the Olympics, not to summarize the construction of stadiums and arenas – most of the investments will go to urban infrastructure. “The 30 days of each event will be valid for 30 years for the country”, says Primo. “The anticipation of many relevant works caused by those events will be one of its main legacies”.
With revenues of US$ 2.46 billion in 2009, 10 thousand employees and 12 factories throughout the country, Siemens will invest, in 2010, US$ 82 million, the average maintained over the past four years. Are on the radar of Primo the construction of new factory equipment for sanitation and other machinery for the production of wind energy, an area in which Siemens is one of the world’s leader.
