On an important week for the Bahia infrastructure, two good news: it was republished on the Official Union Gazette (DOU), this Friday (16), the notice to bid for construction of the Oeste-Leste Integration Railway (Fiol), which had been suspended by an injunction granted to a writ, and on the previous day (15), it was also published on DOU the notice to hire a company to conduct the study on Environmental Impact and respective Report on Environmental Impact (EIA/Rima) for building the Ilhéus Airport.
“Our Fiol is back on track. With the republishing of the notice, we have proof that the railway is a reality,” stated the secretary of Civil House, Eva Chiavon. The notice from Valec – Engenharia, Construções e Ferrovias SA concerns the stretch comprised between the cities of Ilhéus and Barreiras, and the proposals must be delivered until August 18, at 10 AM, on the auditorium at the third floor of the Transport Center Building, located at Setor de Autarquias Norte (SAN), block 3, Lot A, in Brasilia. The new notice can be printed free of charge via Valec website, and more information can be obtained via telephone numbers (5561) 2029-6481, 2029-6481 or 2029-6482.
Secretary Eva Chiavon highlighted the importance of the railway to Bahia and to the railway strategy of president Lula’s government. For Chiavon, the reduction in the cost of cargo transportation, exports of grains, iron ore, ethanol and other products, the generation of job positions in construction and operation of the endeavors, and the service structure, such as restaurants and stores, lead to development to all state citizens, as they heat the local economy.

Adjustments
Chiavon explains that the notice suspension, which lasted less than one week, was only for adjustment purposes, and that republishing the notices is within the normalcy of public management. According to the secretary, with this publishing and the licensing, the bidding process will be concluded in September, and there are archeological, environmental studies and executive projects in progress for building Fiol.
“What we do is a mutual cooperation work. The suspension was an unilateral decision from Valec and the Bahia Government’s Civil House was responsible for asking for agility in the adjustments they claimed necessary for not having delays in the schedules, and so was done.” The equipment is part of a logistic hub, the Intermodal Porto Sul Compound, designed by the State government and also including Porto Sul, the new Ilhéus Airport, roads and waterways.
