At the end of November, the state government will announce the company responsible for preparing the executive Baixada Santista Light Rail Vehicle project. At the same time, bidding will open for purchasing 20 trains that will be used along this route.
The announcement was made by state governor Geraldo Alckmin (PSDB) this Wednesday, in Santos, where he participated in the opening of the 12th Congresso das Associações Comerciais do Estado de São Paulo (Facesp), which continues until tomorrow. “The project is going well,” Alckmin affirmed.
The submission of proposals by companies interested in producing the executive LRV project took place on September 29th. Five consortiums are participating in this process. “The first half of November we will have the technical pre-qualification phase for interested parties.” Alckmin informed. After this phase, the state government will assess which company is best-trained and has the smallest price for carrying out the project.

“The bidding pertains to the first section of the route, which will go from Santos to São Vicente,” the governor commented. “What’s new is that we will simultaneously hold the bid for acquiring the trains.”
During the first bidding phase last February, no company had signed up.
Nearly 11 kilometers long, the LRV will connect the Esplanada dos Barreiros, in São Vicente, to Valongo, in Santos. The vehicle will be part of the Baixada Santista region’s Sistema Integrado Metropolitano (SIM).
Conclusion of the executive project is forecast for the first quarter of 2012. Construction should begin in July 2012.
