VLI, a logistics solutions company that operates railways, ports, and terminals, has signed a Maintenance Services Agreement (MSA) with Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company and global supplier of railway products, services, and technologies. The 10-year agreement focuses on VLI’s railway operations in the North Corridor — a structure that connects the state of Tocantins to the port system of São Luís and handles cargo from the entire Matopiba region, as well as from the states of Pará, Mato Grosso, and Goiás. This is the first agreement of its kind signed by Progress Rail in South America.
According to VLI, the MSA reinforces the company’s commitment to operational sustainability and excellence in managing the performance of railway assets, with a long-term perspective. “The agreement will allow VLI to further focus on its customer service and planning strategy, always aiming for operational excellence. We will rely on Progress Rail’s expertise to maintain the North Corridor’s rolling stock in conditions that ensure efficiency and safety in freight transport. If the partnership delivers the expected results, we may consider applying the same model to FCA,” said Fábio Marchiori, CEO of VLI.
The partnership was structured to increase the availability and reliability of VLI’s locomotive fleet, meeting the growing demand for freight transportation in the region.
Jack Zhang, Executive Vice President of Progress Rail, highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration. “It is a true privilege to work with VLI on this transformation journey. Progress Rail is proud to bring our global supply chain, OEM product expertise, and advanced digital monitoring solutions to support the development of a world-class railway operation in northern Brazil. We thank Fábio and his leadership team for their vision, cultural alignment, and continued trust in Progress Rail. We look forward to building a strong, long-lasting relationship that continues to grow and generate sustainable value,” he stated.
