Raízen recently made the first biodiesel transport by railway from Rondonópolis (MT) to Paulínia (SP). The estimate for the transport by rail is that about 50 million liters of biodiesel per year cease to be transported by road from Mato Grosso State to São Paulo State.
In march, the Raízen, which is a joint venture involving Shell and Cosan, opened its first storage and distribution terminal in Rondonópilis (MT). The terminal is located in the Complexo Intermodal de Rondonópolis (CIR), near the América Latina Logística (ALL). An R$ 60 million investment has been made to the storage and distribution terminal.
According to Raízen, the first operation in Rondonópolis terminal took place on June 11. According to the Company, while Mato Grosso State will flow biofuel (biodiesel) to Southeast region via rails, the Southeast region will send other oil derivatives to Midwest region via rails. With this, it is estimated that approximately fifty trucks stop running.
“A railroad that’s near the productive regions prevents the load to be sent only by highways, which has higher operational costs. The new operation enhances a competitive ability of Rondonópolis, the intermodality. This was possible by the know-how and high-tech infrastructure offered by Raízen, in supply chains and fuel sector logistics, joining the effort involving the public and private initiative”, said Luiz Renato Gobbo, the Raízen Operations Diretor.
As already mentioned by Agro Olhar, Raízen invested R$ 120 million in the Midwest region in recent years. Of this amount, 60 million were invested in the Rondonópolis’ terminal.
