The stretch of the North-South Railroad (FNS) that connects the cities of Porto Nacional (state of Tocantins) to Anápolis (state of Goiás) was excluded from the first lot of the concession package. Now, only the stretch connecting Lucas do Rio Verde (state of Mato Grosso) to Campinorte (state of Goiás), of the Center-West Integration Rairoad (Fico), will be offered.
With the change, the full extent of the railroad lot was reduced from 1,700 km – announced in mid-October – to 884 kilometers. The decision of the Ministry of Transport was published yesterday in the Official Gazette.
The deleted stretch is currently under the responsibility of Valec, which already performs the installation works of the railroad. In the opinion of the federal government, this track will be auctioned later under a different mode of concession, because the concessionaire will receive the railroad already in operation.
The government still faces difficulty to enable the railroad project between Açailândia (state of Maranhão) and Barcarena (state of Pará), until the port of Vila do Conde, in the state of Pará. This would be the first stretch to be bid, but the industry’s companies point out the existence of challenges, from the point of view of engineering, which would not have been included in the feasibility studies of the concession. Currently, the project goes through adjustments suggested by the Brazilian Court of Audit (TCU).
The stretch of the North-South Railroad between the cities of Ouro Verde (state of Goiás) and Dourados (state of Mato Grosso do Sul), with 1,300 km in length, should be one of the next projects to be bid. The granting plan for that lot, presented by the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT – Agência Nacional de Transportes Terrestres), was approved by the Ministry of Transport.
