The Brasil Ferrovias CEO and the National Association of the Railroad Transportation (ANTF) President Elias Nigri, said today that the New Brazil Ferrovias received an imput of R$ 500 million from the shareholders National Bank of Economic and Social Development (Bndes), Previ and Funcef.
According to him, the company should generate a profit in 2007. The initial contribution from the bank and from the funds was concluded in July. According to Nigri, the capitalization stage is already finished and the investments are in the execution phase. The perspective for 2006 is to acquire a thousand new cars, about a hundred locomotives and rails.
On may 6th, president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced government help to Brasil Ferrovias, the railroad that links Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul to the coast through São Paulo. With the agreement, the company passed to be called Nova Brasil Ferrovias. The expectation is that the railroad shall attracts investors interested in taking the part of the funds and of the development bank.
Nova Brasil Ferrovias gathers three lines: Ferronorte, Ferroban and Novoeste. It is a railroad system with 4.673 kilometers of extension that covers the states of São Paulo, Southern Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso, interlinking the Center-West region to the world market. It still serves the Goiás and Minas Gerais states, by means of the Tietê-Paraná waterway.
