The company Valec – Engenharia, Construções e Rodovias S.A. has published, on November 12th 2010 issue of the Brazilian Federal Government Gazette (Diário Oficial da União – DOU), the excerpts of contracts for the execution of two more substretches of the East-West Integration Railway (FIOL). These two work projects involve sections of the railway located between the cities of Ilhéus and Barreiras, in the State of Bahia.
Lot 02, which covers the section between Jacaré Stream and Preguiça River, with a total track length of 117.9 kilometers, shall be executed by the consortium between Galvão and OAS, for a contract having a total value of R$ 650,414,035.89. Lot 07, between the Fêmeas River and the slip road for access to the BR-135 motorway, with a length of 161.12 kilometers, shall be executed by the Oeste Leste Barreiras consortium, in a contract with a price tag of R$ 535.729.183,11.
Valec has also informed, through today’s Diário Oficial, that the company has received, from the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais Renováveis – IBAMA), the due renewal of Preliminary License No. 349/2010. This license refers to FIOL construction work for the stretch between the Modal Integration Platform of Figueirópolis, in the State of Tocantins, through the Modal Integration Platform at Ilhéus, in Bahia. This license shall be valid through to April 7th 2014.
The total track length planned for the FIOL has been set at almost 1.5 thousand kilometers, passing through the Western portion of the state of Bahia, through to the countryside of Tocantins. This railway shall be constructed in three different sections, and shall become a route for transporting grain and iron ore. In Figueirópolis (TO), there shall be an intersection between FIOL and the North-South Railway.
