Brazilian railroad concessionaire MRS Logística has transported some 144 million tons in 2010, which is a rise of some 12% in volume terms, when compared to 2009.
The company has highlighted that this result has exceeded the level before the crisis, and this was pushed mainly by iron ore which grew by 8.9%. Transport of general freight and steel products rose by 13%.
“The positive performance of MRS over the year was a consequence of the internal investments made and also the resumption of economic activities in Brazil, with the country having recorded, in 2010, a significant performance in the volume of iron ore and agricultural commodities as exported”, the company has announced in a statement.
MRS also remembers that the growth in other industries, including civil construction, automotive and white goods, have also had a bearing on the demand for steel products, and this was reflected in the total volume as transported by the company.
