The Programme for Infrastructure for Transport and Urban Mobility, known as Pró-Transporte, is aimed at the development of projects which contribute towards the quality of life and also the preservation of the Environment, which includes the adoption of Light Rail Systems. The city of Macaé has already been through the phases of getting approval from the Federal Savings Bank, which is the financing bank that has financed about R$ 47 million (€ 20.42 million), as the municipality is responsible for the acquisition of the machines at a final price tag in the region of R$ 25 million (€ 10.86 million).
According to the Secretary for Urban Mobility, Jorjão Siqueira, this meeting has made possible a greater closeness between the Federal Government and the Project, which is now just waiting for the financing to be officially published.
– We are happy with the progress that the VLT has shown, becoming a reference benchmark for other cities, the result of a satisfactory relationship between the municipal, state and federal spheres, said Mr Siqueira.
The project has been approved by the technical corps of the technical feasibility analysis area of the Ministry for Cities, and now awaits the publication of the organization authorising the release of the funds.
Elected congressman Vitor Paulo has highlighted the importance of releasing credit for this project. Here we have come not only to make demands but also to stress the benefits that a Light Rail System could bring to the city of Macaé, which is suffering the effects of accelerated growth and which is also preparing for the future demands made by pre-salt, he said.
