Contrail President of the Board of Directors, Guilherme Quintella, has defended that the government devotes itself completely on the realignment of rail access to the Porto de Santos and the network in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo (RMSP – Região Metropolitana de São Paulo) prior to any construction of railroads in the country. According to him, this is the most critical sector of the railroad modal and investments are urgently needed in order to increase the capacity and efficiency of the export corridor to the Port of Santos, through which most of the agricultural products of the country pass and over 30 million people live. “We must do it now,” he said.
Quintella defends three railway projects in the RMSP and Santos area which could provide efficient rail transport in the Porto de Santos. The first is the upgrading of the access to the port. For this, he relies on investments of nearly R$ 5 billion that, in his view, will be contributed from the merger between the concessionaire America Latina Logística (ALL) and Rumo, Cosan Group subsidiary. Moreover, Quintella has mentioned in a lecture at the 9th Logistics and Transport Meeting investments of over R$ 300 million from the dealers MRS and Portofer in order to minimize bottlenecks at the Port of Santos.
The executive has also talked about investments at the order of R$ 4.3 billion predicted for the segregation in the RMSP of the railway network destined for the transport of load and passengers. Currently, trains with both purposes share rails, which increases the load transport time from the interior of the country to the Santos area. The urgency is also revealed by the statements of the government of the State of São Paulo, which has already warned that from 2016 no longer wants to share the network.

He said that concessionaires and the federal government must negotiate an adjustment of existing contracts so the works of segregation are put into practice. “The Brazilian government does not tear contracts but must talk with concessionaires to renegotiate current contracts and allow those investments to be put into practice”, said the businessman. We need a handshake,” he has illustrated. Contrail undertakes in partnership with MRS container transport by rail.
The last Project which has been defended by Quintella on the event was the Intercity Train (TIC – Trem Intercidades) for passengers. According to him, the project study predicts five tracks of rails, one for load transport, two for the São Paulo Metropolitan Trains Company (CPTM – Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos) and two for TIC.
