Seven logistics companies plan to join and form what could be the biggest company in the sector in the State. The Coordinator of the infrastructure Commission of the Sindicato das Empresas de Transporte de Cargas e Logística no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul (Union of the Companies of Cargo Transport and Logistics in the State of Rio Grande do Sul) (Setcergs) and CEO of Navegação Taquara, Frank Woodhead, says the initiative is in an intermediate phase and should be implemented only next year.
For now, the leader prefers not to reveal the names of the companies involved in the project, but added that they are groups that have market niches that are not direct competitors. The idea is to gather logistic agents to offer a greater range of services. Woodhead argues that such a measure will allow companies to gain in volume of operation, reducing the logistic cost. It will be like going into a store and buy everything you need, compares.
According to the businessman, the puzzle is still being mounted to find what is the best way to carry out the plan, however, it probably will be by setting up a holding company. The leader added that the Group also seeks a strategic investor to consolidate the venture.

Woodhead informs that the Nom de guerre of the proposal currently is Intermodal Logistics Hub. The goal is to offer to future customers the best choice of time and price, irrespective of the modal use (road, rail or waterway). The manager points out that the companies operating in the logistics industry, work with high fixed costs. With the Union, the tendency is to reduce this impact.
The priority of the activity of the future company will be container transportation and industrial products, however, without excluding bulk drive. At the beginning, the international market will be the main target of the new company. Woodhead said that both the Tecon Rio Grande and Santa Catarina terminals may be used to drain the containers. The choice will depend on the competitiveness.
