The layout of North-South Railroad which shall link SC to RS has been defined

The layout of the South segment of North-South Railroad has been defined last Wednesday (27). The decision has been taken on a meeting at Valec headquarters, an engineer public company responsible for the works. The North-South shall connect Chapecó, in Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande, in Rio Grande do Sul.

Within the State, the trains shall leave Iraí, on the North and shall travel to the Port of Rio Grande. The rails shall cut the cities of Caiçara, Frederico Westphalen, Seberi, Boa Vista das Missões and Palmeira das Missões. The information was released by Rio Grande do Sul federal deputy Jerônimo Goergen (PT). “We still have some steps to conclude, but the definition about the layout allows us to speed this dream achievement”, Jerônimo celebrated.

The North-South railroad project has begun 25 years ago. After two decades suspended, the works have been resumed in 2007. Entirely, the project foresees 4.5 thousand kilometers of rails, connecting Barcarena, in Pará, to Rio Grande, in Rio Grande do Sul. The proposal is to interconnect the rail network and to reduce transportation costs, connecting four regions and nine Brazilian states. Currently, it operates on the segment between Anápolis (GO) and Palmas (TO), and has 855 kilometers.
