The Brazilian Development Bank (Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social – BNDES) examines a request for funding from the State of São Paulo, in the amount of $961.9 million, for the extension of Line 5 of the Companhia do Metropolitano de São Paulo (Metro) and the expansion of Tamoios Highway. The expectation is that the loan will be approved until the first half of next month.
The information was given yesterday by the Director of Social Infrastructure Area of BNDES, Guilherme Lacerda. The loan is part of the Program of Investment Support of the States and the Federal District (Proinveste), with $9.82 billion. Proinveste was released in June as one of the actions of the federal government to stimulate the economy.
Besides it, Social Infrastructure Area of the bank is responsible for other funding programs for states and cities such as public investment projects in urban mobility – metro works, BRT (bus rapid transit) and LRV (light rail vehicle) – and basic sanitation. Line 5 of the Metro and the New Tamoios, with the expansion of the plateau stretch and the Southern and Northern Contours, are in Proinveste, Lacerda said in an interview to Estado de S. Paulo.
The Tamoios Highway connects the city of São José dos Campos, in the state of São Paulo, to the city of Caraguatatuba, on the north coast, and is 80 kilometers long, of which about 50 will be expanded, according to the State government. Works began in May.

In the case of the metro, extension works of Line 5-Lilac have also started and will connect the Station Largo Treze to the Stations Santa Cruz, on Line 1-Blue, and Chácara Klabin, on Line 2-Green. The total investment is estimated at $3.93 billion.
This extension will be 11.5 km long, with 11 stations: Adolfo Pinheiro, Alto da Boa Vista, Borba Gato, Brooklin, Campo Belo, Eucaliptos, Moema, AACD-Servidor, Hospital São Paulo, Santa Cruz and Chácara Klabin. It is expected that the Line 5-Purple is fully completed in 2015, when it will be 20 km long and will have 17 stations.
Monorail
Lacerda said that BNDES is financing the expansion of the Line 15-Silver, by monorail system. It has been hired, said the director of BNDES. The project of Line 15-Silver had a loan of $452.93 million approved. In May, the Metro expected that the first stretch of the extension would be in operation in 2013. This extension, between Vila Prudente and in the district of Oratory, will have 2.9 kilometers.
The loan agreement for the Line 15-Silver was signed in June by Governor Geraldo Alckmin and the president of BNDES, Luciano Coutinho, in a package of $722.1 million in financing – also including $270.19 million for modernization and reconstruction of 13 of the 20 stations of CPTM’s Line 8.
