The State Government will release until early April the bid for the first phase of Line 18-Bronze of Metro, linking the station Tamanduateí, in São Paulo, to Paço de São Bernardo. The Metropolitan Transportation secretary, Jurandir Fernandes, expected the works begin by December. Completion is expected for 2015.
At the end of the year, the schedule published on EIA/Rima (Environmental Impact Study and Report) of the venture provided that the construction was started in June this year, deadline that will not be met because of bureaucratic procedures.
After the release of the notice to bid, the State will choose the winning proposal in 90 days. The signature of the contract, however, may experience delays if other companies defeated file notices in Court contesting the result of the contest. The planned investment is $2.09 billion, of which $869.2 million will be transferred by the federal government.
Fernandes explained that efforts of the office were concentrated on another bid of the Metro – the Line 6-Orange, linking Vila Brasilândia, in the North Zone, to the Station São Joaquim, Center of Capital. The notice to bid for the international competition was launched at the end of January. The barriers of Line 6 will provide full elements to Line 18. For example, to Line 6 we discussed how the tax burden would be. President Dilma (Rousseff) created legislation for tax relief, the secretary said.

Another convenience pointed out by the head of the Office on the ABC Grande monorail is that the track is entirely by air, which reduces the number of required expropriations. For Line 6, 406 properties underwent compulsory acquisition. For Line 18, the total number of properties has not been disclosed. However, the initial estimate indicated by the EIA/Rima is that 203,000 m² will be removed, divided into 17 blocks. Part of the campuses of Fundação Santo André and Mauá Engineering Institute may make way to the Metro route.
The secretary confirmed that he will request studies to extend the future Line 17-Gold (Jabaquara-Morumbi) to Diadema. Fernandes said that the possibility had not been studied by Metro, and that the request for the evaluation came from the governor Geraldo Alckmin (PSDB party). The only project of future network that is already being done is to bring the future Line 20-Pink to the Rudge Ramos district, in São Bernardo. The first phase of the route, scheduled for 2021, will connect the Station Cerro Corá, in Lapa, to Moema, in the South of São Paulo.
The complement should get started only in 2025.
Monorail should receive 340 thousand passengers a day
The initial estimate is that the Line 18-Bronze carry about 340,000 passengers per day on the stretch between the Capital and São Bernardo. The original project states that the two phases of the venture have 18 stations. However, the company that performs the work may decide for the implementation of the 19th stop point, in Vila Carioca, São Paulo.
The station may end up becoming important because, with it, it will not be necessary that all people disembark in Tamanduateí. Whoever wants to go to Expresso ABC disembarks in Carioca, and whoever wants to go to the region of Avenida Paulista goes to Tamanduateí, the Metropolitan Transportation Secretary Jurandir Fernandes said.
The stations will have average distance of 1,156 meters apart. Each composition will carry up to 850 passengers. All stops will have bike racks and a bike path will connect the points. About 3,000 direct and indirect jobs should be generated by the works.
