This Wednesday, 27 October, Odebrecht was awarded the right to build the first Metro line in Panama, together with Spanish company FFC.
The winning consortium made a bid at US$ 1.446 billion, which is slightly more than the US$ 1.401 billion offered by the competitor.
After a secret meeting lasting more than an hour, and an act with the participation of the President of the Country, Ricardo Martinelli, it was decided to award the concession for this work to the consortium of the Brazilian and Spanish construction firms.
The Secretary of the Metro Company, Roberto Roy, told the EFE Agency that the winning consortium shall now have a time frame of 38 months – up to 31 December 2013 – to complete the work.
Line 1 of the Panama Metro system shall cover the North-South axis of the capital city and shall have 14 stations along a track length of 14 kilometers (8.7 miles).

The representative of the winning group, Antonio Gavioli, told EFE that the success of the proposal was due to highly intense work on the part of the group, right from the start of the bidding process for this work assignment.
The experience of the construction companies and also the presence of our companies here have helped us to win, said Mr. Gavioli, who added that the consortium shall work day and night for the benefit of thousands of Panamanians.
Odebrecht has also participated in the construction of lines in the metro systems of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
