The Director-General of the National Land Transport Agency (Agência Nacional de Transportes Terrestres – ANTT), Bernardo Figueiredo, has today said that, between September and October, there shall be a public consultation about the minutes of resolution for railway transport. In his opinion, the new regulations shall be launched in agreement with the current concession contracts, without the need for prior approval of the new regulatory mark for this industry.
Figueiredo has also informed that, during the public consultation, there shall be the presentation of details about the inspection of the targets set for the sections of the railway network sections that have already been granted by the Federal Government, the compliance with the fare cap, the passage rights given to other companies by the concessionaire and also user’s rights. We hope that by December everything shall be in place, with the rules already being applicable, said the director on leaving a meeting with the Civil Chief of Staff, Erenice Guerra.
The director of the ANTT said that there has recently been confusion between the measures as set forth in the regulatory milestone of the industry, currently under analysis at the President’s Office, and the resolutions to be approved by the agency. Bernardo made it clear that the resolutions shall address the administrative procedures to be used on inspection, from the application of light sanctions through to fines and even, in more serious cases, the cancellation of the right to exploit the section.
Also according to Figueiredo, tomorrow there shall be a new meeting with the concessionaires, at the office of the Ministry of Transport, to address this issue.
