Governor Sérgio Cabral and Carlos José Cunha, CEO at Supervia, must announce today a series of measures, such as increase of R$ 1,25 billion in the company investments until 2048. The initial joint estimation was for R$ 2,5 billion. The novelties include a new international bidding process by the government for the purchase of 60 trains.
This is the funding for SuperVia anticipating the purchase order for 30 additional trains, with its own funds, within a package of 90 train sets. The idea is to count on all of these trains ready to operate by 2015. This purchase and the refurbishment of 73 trains will enable the company to have 231 cooled train sets operating by 2023. This renewal will reduce the average age of the fleet from 35 to 16 years.
SuperVia also announces the end of the time charts an adoption of an interval chart, similarly as the metro, in September. This measure has been disclosed by EXTRA in its edition of May 16, 2010 and will be in force as from September. This is the kick-off for the deployment of the automatic train protection system (ATP), which will be installed by the Canadian company Bombardier in the Deodoro branch, in November 2012.

The other lines will use the system already in 2013. By using the ATP, headway should be decreased to half of the time, reaching three minutes at the Deodoro branch. The investment amounts to R$ 125 million.
By their turn, information on railroad problems will be provided by the operation center, instead of the train operators — who performed this task by impromptu and against their will, as this is not their assignment. The company ombudsman function will be available during the whole day.
The renewal of the old track between Santa Cruz and Itaguaí is another item in the agenda, as well as the train washing, which is currently made at every 40 days. This interval will be reduced to 15 days. But it can be improved even more. In London, for example, the metro train sets are washed daily. The internal cleaning of the coaches has been also reinforced with the replacement of the old service provider.
The passengers will also be provided with charge-free bike parking areas in the busiest stations, and permission to carry their bicycles into the trains, on weekends, as from 02:00 pm.
